The practical part
What happens next
  1. You send this over. Nothing is charged and nothing is booked. It is a request, not a commitment.
  2. We check the date and reply. Within one business day, with anything we would flag.
  3. We send your invoice. The deposit holds the date. Everything after that follows the schedule beside the form.
Where you meet us

H&M Landing, 2803 Emerson St, San Diego, CA 92106. Out on Point Loma, about fifteen minutes from downtown.

Parking at the landing is limited, so we’d suggest a rideshare, especially with a full group. Come twenty minutes before your start time so we can get everyone aboard and leave on the hour.

Booking the Bali Hai dinner instead? We collect you from their dock and you never come here at all.

Where you actually go

Out past Point Loma, around the bay, along the Coronado bridge and the downtown skyline. On a sunset charter that run is the whole point.

Nothing is fixed. Your captain shapes the route around what you want, whether that is anchoring somewhere quiet to swim, staying close for the city lights, or chasing the best light for photos.

Tell us the occasion when you book and we will plan it with you.

Holidays and holiday weekends run $1,000 an hour, and the six biggest days themselves run $1,200: Memorial Day, the Fourth, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Pick your date below and the estimate works it out.

If plans change
  • 14 days or more beforeFull credit toward another date within the year. Yours to use or to give to someone else.
  • 3 to 13 days beforeHalf the charter as a credit toward another date. The rest is kept, as the boat and crew are held for you by then.
  • Within 48 hours, or a no-showThe full amount is lost. We cannot rebook a boat or a crew that late. Weather is the one exception, and it has its own rules.
If the weather turns

San Diego is kind to us most of the year, but it is still the ocean.

If your captain calls the conditions unsafe, you move to another date at no cost. That holds however close to the day it happens, even inside 48 hours, and it overrides every date above. The call is made on the morning and it is the captain’s alone.

Grey skies on their own are not a cancellation. If you would rather not go out on a cloudy day, the usual cancellation dates apply.

What a yacht rental costs in San Diego

Plain numbers

Most charter companies in San Diego make you fill in a form and wait for a quote. This page is the opposite. It is a yacht rental cost calculator: pick your date, your hours and your guest count, add whatever you want on board, and watch the total build line by line. Nothing is hidden until you enquire, and nothing is charged when you send it over.

How much does it cost to rent a yacht in San Diego?

For the whole 80ft BowTie, privately, expect $850 an hour with a three-hour minimum, so $2,550 for the boat itself. The rate drops to $800 an hour at six hours and $750 at eight. Holidays are $1,000 an hour and the six busiest days of the year are $1,200. On top of the boat sit the captain and crew, the port fee and anything you add, which is what the calculator above works out for you.

What goes into the price
  • The yacht, privately. $750 to $850 an hour depending on how long you are out, for all 80 feet and up to 13 guests. Never shared.
  • Captain and crew. Around $160 an hour for a captain and two crew, paid directly to them as bareboat charter rules require.
  • Port fee. 16%, paid to the Port of San Diego and H&M Landing for commercial pickup. Waived if you board at Bali Hai.
  • Crew gratuity. 15 to 20% of the charter, split between the captain and crew. You choose the amount.
  • Anything else you want. Pizza from Prince Street, a taco bar from Miguel’s, a sushi chef, a bartender, a DJ, a photographer, the 30ft water slide. All optional, all priced above.
Boat rental or yacht charter, what is the difference?

For most people planning a birthday, bachelorette or company day on San Diego Bay there is no practical difference. A boat rental usually means a smaller vessel you may drive yourself. A private yacht charter means the whole boat with a licensed captain and crew, which is what BowTie is. You bring your people, your playlist and your food and drink, and the crew handles the rest.

Is it cheaper per person in a bigger group?

Yes, because you are renting the boat rather than a seat. A three-hour charter for four people works out near $640 each before extras. The same charter with 13 people is closer to $200 each. The calculator shows a per-guest figure next to your total so you can see it move as you change the group size.

How far ahead should I book?

Summer weekends, the Fourth of July and New Year’s Eve go first, often months out. Weekdays and the shoulder seasons are usually available with a few weeks’ notice. Half the charter plus the port fee holds your date, the balance is due 14 days before you sail, and monthly payment plans and Affirm are both available.
